In this hammer drill comparison, we will take a look at DEWALT’s most popular hammer drills. The DCD996B vs DCH273B vs DCD985B vs DCD999B vs DCH293B and we compare them all against each other.

What makes the best DEWALT hammer drill?

Deciding which DEWALT hammer drill is best for you depends on which job you will be using it for. There are two types of hammer drills: regular hammer drills, and Rotary hammer drills. Therefore we compared the most popular of each type.

  • Battery life – What is the average battery life after a full charge
  • Max Chuck size – The maximum size of bit that will fit in the hammer drill
  • Applications – Where can you use the hammer drill for

Frequently asked questions

The main difference is the XR battery capability. This new technology promises to deliver 40% more power output than its predecessor. We believe that both are great hammer drills. However, with such a small difference in price, we would always pick the DCD999b over the DCD996b.

The DEWALT DCH293b features the latest XR battery technology whereas the DCH273b does not. This means that the DCH293b is up to 40% more powerful and has longer battery life. Another difference is that the DCH293b is equipped with an Active-rotation e-clutch system. The DCH273b only has an Active-vibration control system.
