Field tests done

If you are working in a small shop and you need to save space, a floor drill press is probably a great tool to buy. However, they can be expensive so finding the right one is important. In this guide, we will help you find the best floor drill press!

What makes the best floor drill press?

There is no simple answer to the question: what is the best floor standing drill press. However, there are a couple of general criteria you want to look at while buying a floor drill press.

  • Weight handling – How much weight can the floor-standing drill hold. Often this is where you really get worth for your money.
  • Usable drill size – Most common sizes are 15 and 17-inch. These are different drills for different tasks. 17″ inch is most used for woodworking whereas 15″ inch is the cheaper alternative.
  • Power of the motor – How much power can the drill deliver, important for heavy drilling. Buying a cheap floor standing drill often means buying one with a weak motor.

Are you looking for a cheaper alternative to a floor-standing drill press? A benchtop drill press might be the best option for you! Read our guide: Best benchtop drill presses for woodworking
